From access to intimacy

SUM + ARTS was founded on a simple observation:

Many cultural institutions succeed in attracting audiences.
But attracting audiences is not the same as building them.

Across exhibitions, programmes, and digital platforms, engagement is often assumed—rather than designed.

As a result, audiences remain present, but not connected. They are informed, but not invested. They could be returning, but not yet transformed.

SUM + ARTS works at the point where access ends, and relationship begins.

We design how audiences engage, connect, and return.

Our work spans:

  • Audience strategy & development

  • Engagement & experience design

  • Research & strategic communications

Each project is grounded in a single question:

What does it take for an audience to move from presence to participation, and from participation to connection?

Meet the Founder

Shirley Wong is a cultural strategist working at the intersection of capital, culture, and audience engagement.

With over 15 years in investor relations and strategic communications, she brings a deep understanding of how value is built and communicated—translating this into the cultural sector.

Her work focuses on how audiences engage with art across exhibitions, programmes, and digital platforms, with a particular interest in moving from access to intimacy.

She is also the founder of Art Padi, a platform exploring new forms of cultural connection in contemporary Asian art.

Let’s WORK TOGETHER

Work with us to move beyond access and build meaningful audience relationships.
